Euro Truck Simulator 2

James and I have recently been playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 from time to time. It started with James watching videos for Farming Simulator all the time and eventually watching  Euro Truck Simulator 2. After watching videos over and over of the game, we decided to buy the game online. Not a bad deal for under $30.

The amount of detail is pretty cool and will keep your eyes looking all over the place. I’ve never driven around Europe, so I don’t know how true the look is to the country, but it looks pretty good to me, especially on a 55 inch tv.

After driving a semi on the road for a little bit a few years ago, the game is pretty close to the same way you have to drive a real tractor trailer. You’ll have to give extra wide turns so you don’t hit other cars, which would get you a $400 ticket. Slowing down to make turns for off ramps and turns in cities is a must and will keep you on your toes when hauling “Over Sized” objects.

zoom_4The best way to drive is from the interior of the cab. You have many camera options, but driving it like a real truck seems to be the best way to do it. The interior of the cabs are pretty detailed, and give you a wide view for you to look out. You have to use you mouse to look around in the cab and out the left and right side window. Like in real life, you’ll have to look both ways before making any kind on turns to make sure there are no cars coming.

This is a fun game for me, but the cool part is that James will play too. He has his own profile which is separate of mine, and he will drive missions. He hits a lot of things, but for the most part being a 4 year old he does pretty good.  I’m slowly trying to get him to stay in one lane and go slow when he needs to.

gps1He will select a mission from somewhere in Germany that has to go to a place in Italy, and will eventually get there. He’ll start it from the departure yard and drive it all the way to the receiving yard. The cab has a GSP in side which James will actually follow. It shows him where to turn and he will actually follow it step for step.

At first we were just using the keyboard to drive around which was tough to do. I decided to dig out my old Logitech G25 wheel from a box and hook it up. This made it much easier to get around and James loves to drive with the wheel.
